|This is an image of the trail that follows the contours of this hillside so that the public may be as close to the ash deposits as they can lawfully be without walking directly on them. The trail takes you through each section of the ash deposits, from nearly white, to brown, to yellow, and then to red, not necessarily in that order mind you. The lake in the background is now off limits to everyone, a new landowner has closed this magnificent lake and its vibrant plant and animal life OFF TO THE PUBLIC so that he can RAISE BIRDS, probably for hunters as many in the area's ranchers do for income in the off season. The next time I go to the Painted hills I am going to attempt to visit with the new landowner and see if during the Trek meets I put together that once I tell him that we will be arriving on a certain day if we can have permission for a morning and an afternoon session along the lakeside. With all luck, and a little understanding on his part to what was once a jewel in the area to photographers and painters alike, he may allow us the "PRIVILiGE" to capture its beauty, possibly for a small fee or printed image and with myself as a guide.|

Fantastic landscape image Steven,
The colors are gorgeous and the mountains in the BG. help show off this beautiful sight!! TFS.
It is starting to look like a mixture of geology and Palouse a bit here..and coincidentally off to the public...just as well for me...I cannot walk that far anyway....You have an almost pastel image here guy! I hear a "hint" of something about this fellow..Strange folks live in areas like this..one never knows if they are OK....ya know?
