As you can see this was taken from my spring archives. This Kingfisher arrived at the perch with the fish and started to look down at the water and did this for a few minutes . I am not too sure what it was up to. Whether it thought it would try for a second fish or was just showing the fish where it had come from. !! In the end it flew off, i was able to get about 50 pictures all the same though.

Kingfisher ( Alcedo atthis ) Length 16 - 17cm
A dazzlingly attractive bird but colours often appear muted when seen sitting in the shade. Has orange - red underparts and mainly blue upperparts. Electric blue back seen to best effect when bird is seen flying low over water. Often seen in overhead branches watching river for small fish. When opportunity arises it will plunge headlong into water, catching prey in bill which is swallowed whole head first and sometimes stunned by beating head of fish on a branch.
Nests in holes excavated in river bank. Widespread and fairly common on fish rich rivers , lake and flooded gravel pits , can be seen in much of Ireland and Britain, becoming scarce in the north of Scotland. In winter can be seen on sheltered rocky coast in cold weather.

Taken in the evening this has been slightly cropped and resized for TN. Otherwise this is straight out of the camera.

Hi Nick,

I remember this Kingfisher and his fish! Another wonderful shot showing the fish in his beak so clearly. A fine view of the top of the bird's head and feathers. The iridescent colors are magnificent and show off against the nice dark background so well.

Hallo Nicholas
Another stunning image from your lens. What a delight to look at such a perfect focused shot, filled with warm and rich colours. The detail captured is simply remarkable and so pleasant to look at and admire. The whole image is a sheer enjoyment to look at. The details of this Kingfishers "catch of the day" is stunning! Lucky bird, not so lucky fishy. But that is life, and life must carry on. Lucky for some, unlucky for others. Thanks for sharing this beautiful image. Best regards

Hello Nicholas !
There are many pictures of this bird on TN, but this one is so unique ! I love the unusual pose of the bird, pointing his beak (and the fish) toward the water. I also like the quality of this picture, with excellent details, and such vivid colors, and a splendid blurred BG. Very well done !
