[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Here is the other species that I captured on my 350 km trip north.

This is one of the rarest and most threatened species in Sweden
Reverdin’s Blue female (Plebejus argyrognomon)

Swedish name: Kronärtsblåvinge

This species has been shown a few times on TN

It has always been rare in Sweden where it is a relic of the warmer times after the Ice Age. It is found in small concentrated populations around where its larval host plant, Wild Liquorice, Astragalus glycyphyllos, occurs.

In Sweden this is only concentrated within about a 30-km area along the border between Östergötland and Eastern Småland. The other Scandinavian population in Norway, by Oslo Fiord is also acutely threatened. In Sweden it is red-listed and protected.

It is also locally distributed in C., E. and S. Europe

The female, seen here is more beautiful that the male that is all blue on the upper surfaces of the wings, the eye-markings at the base of the hind-wing being striking. It can be told from the other Plebejus species by the almost continuous orange band on the u/s of the hind-wing (seeWORKSHOP) and by its larger size.

This was taken at a distance of about 2 meters and after moderate cropping it was selectively sharpened.

A good find Ivan.
The subtle colours in the wings here have surprising impact when the light catches them just right.

Hi, Ivan.
A beautiful butterfly, and the lighting picks out the blue iridescence very nicely. The workshop is useful for ID purposes, also - thanks. There is a tiny mis-spelling of the English name ;)
Regards, Nigel.

Hello Ivan,
It's a beautiful species indeed. I have never seen it before. I wonder why this species is threatened? Is it because of habitat loss? Details, colours and exposure are all perfect here.
Best greetings and TFS!
Michal
