[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This young Osprey was practicing his/her take-offs and landings. After observing both of these youngsters for a period of time, I noticed the parents bringing back food. It made me wonder if they have yet to make their first kill. Given they are adult size around a month old, it is difficult to know.

I saw each youngster take off from the nest, fly to the telephone pole beside the nest, and then return. Still, there's nothing that brings me more awe while watching these predatory birds as they gracefully come in for a landing. It is such a contrast to the violence with which a kill is made - and I am still awaiting the day that I'm there for that with camera in hand.

I stood in the middle of the road to capture some of these photos - not realizing I was blocking traffic. My poor friend thought I was going to get myself killed!

Enjoy your week,
Kathy :-)

Super shot Kathy!!
Love the angle you got of those magnificent wings. Wonderful detail and color, especially against that clear blue sky.
I hope someday to get a shot of an Osprey, but it may be way down the road since I rarely even get a glimpse of one.

Hello Kathy,

Good shot of the bird of the prey landing on to it's Eyrie (an eagle's nest), ofcourse it is an Osprey. Nice view from front of the take.

Keep Shooting!

"blocking the traffic" is ok..*g* for such a great photo. :-) wonderful frozen action, the pose is really amazing.
well done & best wishes, thor.

Fantastic shot. I've seen plenty on the east coast at the outer banks, but wasn't able to get a clear shot. This one is very good, a bit tighter crop so the eye would have been more visible may be nice

Stunning shot!

Hello Kathy,

A fine photo, nicely captured at the right moment when the young bird was flexing its developing flight muscles. An interesting story behind it too, but do be careful around cars, drivers seem to have no patience with nature photographers blocking them, regardless of how good the resulting photo may be. ;-)
