Hello my Friends!
Today in Lodz it was cloudy and rather cold (about +15C) so I decided to do a little braek from some Scandinavian photos and come back to rather warmer region. Today a picture of species witch is really unexpected inhabitant of Moroccan Sahara desert! :>

This is Rana saharica (Ranidae) known in English as Sahara Frog, North African Water Frog, North African Green Frog, or Moroccan Green Frog.

Identification of species was made with great help of Bayram (boreocypriensis).
I believe that this species was not presented in TN gallery before :>

Distribution: Algeria, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia

Habitat: predominantly aquatic, around open water, but also into nearby gardens and fields

Size: up to 10cm

Body colouration: brown, green, or mixed; yellow or green vertebral line may be present or absent; spots may be present or absent, and if present may be random or symmetrical

Food mainly insects, fish eggs, frog eggs and fish fry; a single case of hunting for a 30 cm snake was noted too!

Conservation status: placed in the LC category, even that it is the most common amphibian species in the Maghreb

Picture was taken in Sidi, next to Camel Cave, NE Morocco, but the some species was observed my me also in the middle of Moroccan Desert - in Merzouga.

nglen, jcoowanitwong, rousettus, maurydv, Argus, boreocypriensis, chudy, Noisette, anemone, meyerd has marked this note useful

Hi Radomir. Congrats on a first on TN with this fine close up of the Rana saharica . Not what i would think of seeing in the Desert. You were able to take a very sharp picture with first class detail in the skin and eye. Your use of the light has given natural colours. well done TFS.

Witaj Radomirze,
Na moje oko to przypomina nasze krajowe.Piekne ujecie z niskim POV w naturalnym otoczeniu. Bardzo dokladnie oddana kolorystyka skory.
Pozdrawiam, Pawel

Congatulations on this first for TN Radomir!
A great sharp capture of a Rana saharica taken from a fine POV using flash that does not cause too many undesirable reflections.
Yes, from the desert regions of S. Morocco this is quite unexpected!
Thanks and all the best from a windy Åhus!

Buen trabajo Radomir.
