[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Immature White Ibis, 1st spring plumage. When mature, it will be all white. Commonly found in costal salt marshes, swamps and magroves around southern coastal areas of US.

Photographed in Corkscrew Swamp, 20 miles east of Naples Florida. As it was late afternoon (around 6.30pm) the light was soft and somewhat mottled/patchy under the cypress canopy. I waited a while until the Ibis settled on the stump which was one of the spots where light still shone through the canopy. I exposed for the highlights which darkened the background further. The lens, even though it is IS, rested on a beanbag on a fence post. This was the best "pose" (profile) and exposure of around 10 exposures. ISO was set to 200. There's a highlight patch on the back of the Ibis that is a little overexposed, maybe 1/2 or 1/3 stop ....

This is a beautiful photo, Paul. I find the exposure excellent, as the background, even though natural, looks like a black drape in a studio! Please don't be too strict with yourself about the "overexposed" patch on the back of the bird.

Photos and notes like yours help me greatly as a learning tool.

Excellent work.

Very very nice. With the dark background we can really see all the detail of that bird. Good exposition. Well done.

I was unfortunately away for the weekend. I could therefore not critique your photo. Now that I’m back so many good shots were posted that I do not have enough points to hand out to all that deserve it, so sorry. I like this photo and do think it deserved points. Maybe I’ll catch up later.
