Another shot from my recent trip - this is a pretty famous lake in my country called Lacul Rosu a.k.a. The Red Lake.

Lacul Rosu is natural storage lake at 980 m altitude, near Bicaz Gorges, at approximately 26 km from Gheorgheni city (Harghita County), on the national road 12/C, in the resort with the same name.
The lake has "L" form, is 10 m deep (maximum depth is 10.5 m), an area of 12.7 ha, and a 2830 m circumference.

The name Lacu Rosu - Red Lake comes from the reddish alluvia deposited in the lake by its main tributary.

The lake has formed recently, in the summer of 1837. Then, after some abundant rains, a great quantity of rocks and debris slid from the Northen side of the Killer Rock (Stanca Ucigasului), blocking the Bicajel river. The water accumulated and formed a natural storage lake. The unusual magic is amplified by a lot of dead trunks of the old fir trees, which come out from the water.

For a better impression of the amount of spooky tree trunks coming out of the lake, please check the Workshop.

Hope you'll like it and thanks for visiting.

Hi Mate,

cracking shot from this very special looking place! I recognise it from when somebody else used to post shots from Romania, i think it was Steve (Marionas)?
Anyway, the gloom here really didn't detract from creating a s wonderful atmosphere, one i personally love. There's just something about low light and water. f6.3 at 3 seconds? That must have been dark!
Anyway, great clarity and tones in this one. My only minor nit would be perhaps those wonderful tree stumps get a bit lost at 17mm and i might have placed the tree stump nearest completely in the patch of reflected sky. I think your workshop works better to show them all, but the POV here which includes that wonderful reflection of the tree covered slopes is very beautiful indeed.
Anyway, thanks for sharing it!
(i would LOVE to visit here??)

Hi Horia. This also looks such a beautiful and relaxing place. I like the old tree trunks in the water. Taken from a fine POV . With such natural colours. I like all the different shades of blue. well done TFS.

Hello Horia!

You bring me memories from this very special place my friend! I was there four years ago, but it wasn't as beautifull as in your photo. Great shot - crystal clear, fresh, with blue tones. Excellent composition with leaves in upper corner and white frame.

Hi Horia
Hice picture of the Red Lake.
I like the reflection in the water and the calm atmosphaere.
I admire also your workshop picture.
Thanks for sharing

Hello Horia
wonderful Landscape, great vertical composition
I like the grass in the voreground, the reflection in the water and the sharp details on the whole image
Have a good night

Hi there

Thanks for your comment on my frog pic.

This image really draws you in even as a thumbnail, partly due to the drama.
I do like the calm reflections, the hint of mist in the distance, the over hanging tree and the foreground interest.
All in all a lovely image.
Now Ive read you are into to herpetology Im off to see your other images as Im a keen herpetologist myself.

Bonjour Horia,

Hi Horia

I like colors and forests reflection. Looks like real painting. TFS

Hi Horia,
This must be a magical place to be at early in the morning. The tree truks act as a sort of ghosts floating on the water. Your photo certainly has the feel to it. I love the distant fog and the great clarity in the FG. From your EXIF data I can see that it was still dark, what else to expect with an aperture of 6.3 at 30 seconds. However, you could have gone down in ISO and have a slightly better aperture for that important sharpness at the edges of the photo. (which cannot be seen at this size, so less of a worry)
I do see, Paul's point about the tree stupms getting lost. But I don't think you could have gotten closer to those stumps without a wetsuit.

Hello Horia !
First, I want to thank you for your kind words and nice comment on my own lake picture, I appreciate it very much.
Then, coming to your picture, I must admit it is just perfect. The composition is wonderful with the grass in the FG, then the mirror-like water, the the wooded hills giving such awesome reflections. I like the evening colors, too - they look natural, but in the same time they give something like a mysterious atmosphere to your picture, making the lake look even more beautiful. Makes me want to jump in a plane and visit this place ! :-)
Very well done !

Hello Horia,
miraculous place, excellent composition. Thank you for showing us such little known jewels from your country, with valuable information how to get there!
Thank you my friend.
With best regards,
