Common Kingfisher (Alcedo atthis)

Though it may be named "common" kingfisher it is anything but that around these parts and they are seasonal visitors. This is an early visitor and getting it right from a rocking boat as a platform was indeed a challenge for me. I must say the "IS" of the lens worked well as can be seen from the shot.

I resisted using fill flash as I normally would to bring out the feather details but I have found at times it does change the hues of the blue colour.

1D Mk3 + EF800 mm + 1.4IIext 1/60s f/9 ISO400 EV +1/3 No fill flash.

Another great photo of a kingfisher. The technical quality is high and it's very beautiful. Fantastic catchlight in the eye.
