Better known backyard visitors:

The last butterflies visiting my yard in October are the Clouded Yellow, the Peacock, the Red Admiral, the Painted Lady but also this Wall Brown (Lepidoptera; Satyridae; Lasiommata megera L.; Mauerfuchs; Le Satyre). The Wall Brown is surprisingly jumpy: at the moment the camera mirror is clicking the butterfly lifts off, when the flash gets into action it has already gone. This female I surprised from a dead angle. The picture was taken at the end of July.

The problem with this picture was the Buddleja davidii flower: first it is not native to our lands although it is now well established in warm and humid parts of Switzerland; second its color really "bites" the butterfly. I had to desaturate and darken the flower somewhat in PS. I hope you still like my contribution.

Hi Dietrich. I think we have seen the last of the butterflies for this year as well unless the weatehr warm up again. You were able to get a fine close up of this Wall brown. Taken from a good side POV so we can see all of the markings with fine detail. Your use of the flash has given natural colours. Well taken , TFS.
Nick..

Hallo Dietrich,
