Lesser known backyard bugs:

The Cinnamon bug (Heteroptera; Rhopalidae; Corizus hyoscyami (L.) is a rare visitor in my backyard, sitting in this case on Aegopodium. Nikos Nikolaou (nicosrio) writes on TN about the same species:

"Corizus hyoscyami is a very weird bug indeed. It is extremely similar to the Firebug and is often mistaken for one. The two species however are not closely related at all. Corizus hyoscyami belongs to a very small bug family called the Rhopalids (Rhopalidae). The members of this family all have a small glass like transparent section in the shieldy parts of their wings. These transparant sections are called windows..... The markings on the Firebug are different, the snout is entirely black and it can't fly. The Firebug and a few of its relatives are not the only look-alikes. There are also a number of similar Seed Bugs. Many of these have a white dot on the membranous parts of the wings (-->see also in my workshop, D.M.). Anyway, always pay close attention to shape and number of markings when identifying red and black bugs. You could also use your nose, for Corizus hyoscyami smells like cinnamon, that is why it is called the Cinnamon Bug in Dutch. The animal reaches a length of some 9 to 12 mm".

Technical stuff: The double macro flash was as usual covered with paper to avoid glares and shadows. In PS I did my cropping, resizing, contrasting, sharpening as usual. I added the missing antenna tip to the left by stamping, I hope you don't mind.

Hallo Dieter!

As liebs Grüessli

Markus

Hi Dietrich.
We have almost similar insects and this autumn I took few shots of them. I think I'll share them too. I like wonderful POV and diagonal structure of the shot as well as amazing DOF and details of the insect. As always, lights are great at you images and exposure of the tiny white flowers is precise. My best wishes and TFS.
Alexei.

Lieber Dieter,
Anne

Hello Dietrich.
a good close-up picture with well controlled fill-in flash,
nice to see without hard light, hard contrast and black BG,
this could a learning picture.
It's well composed with the bug in a small diagonal.
Sharpness and DOF are also god.
Well done.
Have a nice WE.

/Gert

A fine looking bug and good technics plus your magic touch (or sight!) produced quite a pleasant macro study Dietrich, thank you for sharing it MF.

Hello Dietrich,
A great macro of this colourful Firebug taken with excellent technical standard both with fine pp work. well composed on the white Umbeliferous flowers too.
This species is common and widespread in most of Sweden but I have never photographed it, so it's a bonus to see this1
Thanks and all the best,
Ivan

A nice shot, Dietrich!
Excellent detail.
Great light from that macro flash.
Nice colours too.
Superb notes!

Well done,

Joe

I certainly had to do a double take on this one Dietrich. I knew at once it must have been an archive..outside of my windows the only insects are small flying green aphids by the zillions...

You have some nice deep, rich colours and the patterns are superior without being overwhelming. Depth of field is perfecto. and composition is same...very nice addition with great notes!
Bob

Hello Dietrich,
Excellent capture, with good management of the flash (thanks for the tips!) and perfect sharpness. Cheers,
Catherine

Hello Dietrich!
You are right, this one is not so common bug :>
Another capture with very nice DOF and sharpness and another creature (what I like the most!) which is rather poorly known.
What to say more? Bravo and TFS!
All the best from Lodz,
Radomir

Hi Dietrich

Great shot of this colourful bug. Excellent sharpness and beautiful composition.

Chris

Don't mind the stamping at all Dietrich, nice job of it.
We "make" images don't we? :)
Excellent detail/DOF and colors, well controlled flashing too.
Great info,
Very well done!

Bonjour Dietrich
Voici un insecte dont les couleurs et les motifs sont très bien rendus.
Les contrastes me plaisent bien, et le support met le tout en valeur
Merci, Amicalement
Laurent
