Very good shot! I love the stillness and serenity that this shot imparts. The rock is an interesting addition, but I must say I find it slightly draws attention away from the heron... The only other thing I'm not quite sure about is the colour balance - it seems fractionally blue/cyan/green to me. Anyway excellent work :-D

Bonjour Luc.
Quelle très belle prise. L'idée de le prendre en basse vitesse est excellente, ce n'est plus de l'eau, c'est en quelque sorte un rêve d'out sort l'oiseau et toute la magie que le photographe apporte a l'image.
Bravo.

Incredible picture Luc! Just fantastic! Eight seconds - almost unbelivable - but the effect is simply amazing. Lovely, arty photo with blurred, haze-like water and frozen heron. These birds must have got nerves of steel ;-) Superb!

You really took great advantage of this bird's stillness in making the water misty with a long exposure. So lovely!

Luc, you make it look quite eerie, ghostly, mysterious, moody! Wonderful result of your long time exposure. Just shows how still the bird stands there. PERFECT!
Hello Luc, Is this a dream or the real thing? ;-) Interesting and unique effect you have created here with the 8 second exposure my friend, Well done!

What did you pay him to make him stand so still for all of 8 seconds? ;-)
These slow-shutter captures of moving water always take my fancy, and this one is no exception. Pity the stone is not on the other side of the heron, as that would have balanced the photo better, but asking him to move over as well as stand still would probably have been too much ;-)

Bonjour Luc,
C'est magnifique! Bravo!! One of the best shots on this site I have seen. I think I remember a similar one on Trek Earth, but I haven't searched for it. Perhaps you should to compare. Beautiful juxtaposition of the still and the moving. Perfect focus for both those elements.

8 seconds exposure, unreal.
A very different type of shot Luc, well done. Love the dreamy water flow. Excellent composition.
Hello Luc and here I am with my new way of writing critiques. You asked for it, pal. ;)
*POV:5
*DOF:5
*Composition:3, a little too less space on the right, too much in the bottom.
*Details:4, still a lot of details are visible in spite of the strange effect. The Heron must have been like a statue! ;)
*Exposure:5, eight seconds of light at f8 ... Amazing! :)
*Colors:5, nice and vivid. The effect you created is STUNNING!
*Note:4, always good enough from your hand.
Scale 1-5, 5 is the best.
Hello Luc,
I hope you will not think my new way of writing critiques is cold, hard and impersonal (Hi Janice! ;)). I am trying to make my new way of writing critiques better and better all the time and I hope I will succeed.
I love the effect you created and alone for that this post deserves 2 points. I think I would have rather seen a panoramic version instead of a square though. That's why I fixed you a workshop. I hope you don't mind.
Regards and always in a very friendly way,
Pieter

Bravo Luc pour la prise de risque. Le résultat est à la hauteur!
Il y a l'idée, l'instant magique et la maitrise technique.
Bravo...
thats an amazing pic Luc. Does the image stabilizer in S2 IS does its job? Jus curious cuz i recently had to choose between Nikon 4800 and Canon. I went for Nikon for its optics and lower price. Guess i didnt compromise a lot

Hi Luc, this is wonderful, moody, artistic, like others have said - a painting with a camera. You used an 8 second exposure to get the blurred water and yet the bird has come out well too. I can understand the rock being sharp, but a heron? Wow :) An absolutely incredible shot and inspirational, TFS :)

Hi Luc
A creative image indeed. I do not think I'd want to be a Heron with my feet in cold water most of the day...:-)
