I hope my ID is correct.
I found these rather lovely looking fungi growing on a dead tree. the big one was about 20cm cross I will post another photo later of the larger view ther were so many of them. These ones were the best looking and in the best condition.

Auricularia polytricha - Also known as wood ear or ear fungus, or Jew's ear.

Normally found on dead wood, or on dead parts of living trees. It forms flabby cup or ear-shaped brackets of a dull grey-brown colour, becoming a blue-grey colour as they age.

I used a flash and a high tech 4 ply tissue diffuser.

I used Paint shop to increase brightness 10, resize for TN, frame and add my scribble.

Nice shot Sue. It seams as if your "fungi trail" yielded great results.

Nice shot Sue.
Your ID is correct.
They were a big export to China in olden days.
They can be quite photogenic too if you get the right light.
This looks good.
Well done.

"Lend me your ears!" What an ugly fungus Sue, and quite big too. Such unusual shapes and colours. Good fine, well done.

Hi Sue your ID is correct but out of date Its recently been renamed to Auricularia cornea. which is a name that it had once been known as back in the 1820's although as Exidia cornea.

Hi Sue.
Fantastyczny grzyb , świetnie sfotografowany, bardzo ładne światło.
Well done.
Robert.

Hi Sue, I like this image, the ears certainly live up to their name. Inside the top ear looks a little soft so maybe slightly more DOF? The exposure though is spot on and the image is sharp throughout the main ear, so sharp that I can almost feel the texture. Wonderful. I love those subtle colours. Well done on the exposure and the composition. Nice capture :)
