Sphaerophoria scripta (Linnaeus 1758)
Family: Syrphidae

The Sphaerophoria scripta is one of the most beautiful syrphidae, with fine yellow markings. The male is easily identified by the long and slim abdomen. You can see a photo of one male taken last year, with the Sygma 70-300 lens.
The female has a long abdomen, broadened near the middle and ending conically, like here. But the exact ID of the females inside this genus is quite difficult to determine. One characteristic of the S. scripta is the length of the wings: smaller than the abdomen. It is the case here (I have another shot where it is more evident). S. scripta is also the most common of the genus. That is why I suppose it is S. scripta.

Hi Catherine. You had a very good year with insects . I hope i am able to get out more next year . Not being able to drive for a while has made it very differcult. This is a fine close up of this hoverfly. I like the pose with its head inside the flower. Taken with good detail and natural colours. well taken TFS.

Ciao Catherine. Stunning details geeat light and excelelnte details for this nice insect in brigth natural colours. TFS and have a nice Sunday.

Hi Catherine,

Magnificent set, the quality of the colors and sharpness are worthy of being celebrated. The background is homogeneous and perfectly adequate for the contrast with the insect. Very good management of exposure to avoid overexposure the flower; it was certainly difficult.

Very good job, very neat.

Buen Domingo: Josep Ignasi.

Hi Catherine,
Beautiful shot, great sharpness and clarity with great bokeh. Truly inspirational.

Hello Catherine,
a sharp close-up with lot's of details. it's good to see you use a tripod, the macro photographres best friend.
Well composed with nice pose of the hoverfly.
Well done.

A splendid macro study Catherine, the fuzzy, greenish BG emphasizes the beauty both in colouration and form of both the fly and the thistle flower. TFS it indeed my friend.
