So please advise.

Hello sir
I think this is the comm. Evening brown !!

Justa pero suficiente luz Goldy. Siento no poderte ayudar en la id.
Saludos: J. Ignasi.

Hi Goldy,

I think It may be a "leaf´butterfly" belong the family Ninphalidae an sub-family Charaxinae, is similar to our "Anaea aide", but I doubt that Venezuela and India share this species.

Although possibly it may be a "Common evening brown" in the "Dry season form," in wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melanitis_leda) refer to this type of variation of the species.

Either way, it's a very strange and interesting butterfly. You've photographed it with good detail and correct POV. Good use of flash to supplement the light.

Namaste Goldy,
this is clearly a species of the genus Melanitis. Their underside wing patterns are
highly variable. Although in some cases not easily distiguishable from M. phedima,
I suggest that this is Melanitis leda (Nymphalidae, Satyrinae).
The specimen is shown with high sharpness and is well exposed. However, background and
composition are not so attractive.
Best wishes, Peter

Hello Goldy,

Hi Goldy. I see you had a few ideas about its ID. You were able to get a fine close up showing the side view with closed wings. Taken with good detail and natural looking colours. well taken TFS.
Nick..

Superb choice...although it is not particularly in a naturla setting, it indeed may not realize it...there is no right...with exception of perhaps a studio...just as aside to a one point....VERY nice addition and I hope someone defines it well in English as well as Latin...

Hi Goldy,a very strange butterfly in a very strange background.I can't make better than the experts about the name, but i must give you my double compliments for the rare specie first and for the excellent quality of sharpness and colors too. Thanks a lot for the kind words about my last pic, have a nice time,LUCIANO

bonjour Goldy
Jacqueline
