More from the backyard:

The 9 mm long Black root weevil (Coleoptera; Curculionidae; Otiorhynchus morio (F.); Schwarzbeiniger Dickmaulrüssler) comes, as you can see, in shiny black. It's a "First" on TN.

ID: http://www.koleopterologie.de was the best help I found. The genus Otiorhynchus is with about 60 species well represented in Europe. Its hallmark are the bulging cheeks, the snout that has twice the length of its diameter and the thick femurs. For the species it was easy, it is the only shiny all-black one.

Technical stuff: I used a hooded double flash. In PS I had quite some cleaning up (with "stamp") to do, the beetle was covered with cobweb threads. Those who wear black know that the garment has to be impeccably black, this color goes with attitude!

Hello Dietrich! Good macro, perfect contrast and sharpness, ideal light and colours. Splendid effect. Well done!

Hallo Dieter!

As liebs Grüessli

Ciao Dietrich, beautiful macro of lovely bug, wonderful metallc colors, good details and splendid sharpness, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hi Dieter, This is a very interesting bug and as you say is totally black.
Good control of DOF and POV, the sharpness to bring out the texture are great.
Usually black and glossy subject doesn't stand out in dark BG, this photo are well handled. Best regards, deshoi

Hello Dietrich,
Good photo in beautiful contrasting colours and a good use of flash. Excellent sharpness and DOF.

Hallo Dietrich,

A superb macro capture of the metallic colored bug with wonderful details!

The sharpness and POV are well chosen with great show of the natural colors. A great contrast can be seen between this dark colored subject and dark-green blurry BG.
Well done composition!

best regards,

Lieber Dieter,

Hello Dietrich,
It's not easy to take a fine macro of a relatively small black shiny weevil but here you have done a good job.
The use of flash has not caused too much reflection and you have achieved fine sharpness with a good DOF so that most of its features, including the bulbous femurs, are shown with excellent clarity from this nice lateral POV on the the edge of a leaf.
Great cleaning job at the PP stage too!
Congratulations on this first and for presenting it so well for us on TN!
Thanks and have a good weekend,

Hi Dietrich,

As usual astonishingly awesome macro capture from you.
The POV/DOF, clarity, details and composition are all impeccable!
TFS and have a nice Sunday!
