I red your note with much interest, Livio. Create a black BG is a very good idea used for macro shots, but, as you mentionned, it's difficult when you only have two hands. Besides that, it's nearly impossible with flying insects. With damsels, it's only possible when they are mating (I did some very close shots like that yesterday, but without cardboard). You really had luck with your shot, as it's perfectly in focus on the entire subject. The light is wonderful here and contributes to show sharp details. No nits here.

Great shot Livio. The details and focus are spot on. The lighting, BG and composition are excellent. This has a reall feeling that the damselfly is about to take off. Very nice shot.

Dear Livio,
The picture is just great. Background or no background! I personally feel that in photographing wildlife if props are used one loses the feel for whats natural. nature is not always perfect, and i believe photographs should also reflect that.

I never used the 'card', so I've no idea how to do it.
The damselfly sitting on the 'BG' looks great, details are perfect and colours very good.
The real BG of this shot has great colours and it seems that the damselfly prefers it more than black ;-)
I like the photo very much.
