Long-legged backyard inhabitants (5):

The moment you had all the fine legs in your viewer the animal had already moved. It fades perfectly into its environment and is continuously on the move. I finally decided to go for a suitable background and forget the legs. This is the Large Crane Fly (Diptera; Tipulidae; Tipula maxima (Poda 1761); Riesenschnake; la Tipule géante). She measures up to 35 mm.

ID: Tipulids have 13 antennal segments and two anal veins reach the edge of the wing. The adults stay on the ground during the day, the long legs are an adaptation to overcome the tangle of herbs and litter. They don't seem to feed on anything; the females lay eggs into the humid ground. This species is with a wing span of 5-6 cm the biggest Dipteran of Europe and has a characteristic wing pattern.

Post-processing: With PS I desaturated somewhat disturbing objects in the background. I had to add a wing tip with "Stamp".

Hallo Dieter!

As liebs Grüessli

Markus

Hallo Dietrich,

Hello Dietrich,

Excellent capture.
Details and definition are fantastic.
Good composition.

Hi Dietrich,

An incredible and very high quality macro of a crane fly from wonderful POV with impeccable details, as usual. Truly impressive shooting MF!
TFS and have a nice new week!
cheers,

Bayram
