It is not easy to photograph two closely related species together in nature, but here at last I had achieved that aim. Both are species of Anemone that flower in April, but as the white one tends to flower before the yellow it is difficult to find two fresh flowers together.

The flower on the left:

Wood Anemone Anemone nemorosa
Swedish name: Vitsippa, meaning ‘white anemone’

This is a common species in S. and C. Sweden as well as most of Europe.
It flowers in the spring and can be found growing in both acid and alkaline soils

Has been shown many times on TN

The flower on the right:

Yellow Anemone Anemone ranunculoides
Swedish name: Gulsippa, meaning the same as the English.

This species is found in S. Sweden in deciduous woodlands on calcareous soils. It is much rarer that the Wood Anemone. It is found in similar conditions in Europe but is rarer. It flowers slightly later that the Wood Anemone.

Has been shown only twice before on TN

The two species can hybridise, but this is rare in nature

I took this shot with my long lens hand-held. As it was windy the high shutterspeed was desirable. After moderate cropping and size reduction the image was selectively sharpened.

hello Ivan,
What a charming picture and such a beautiful color-combination. Something to give a little bit of "bonheur", just to look at it. I know these flowers well, having both of them on my meadow..a wonderful reminder of past spring.
Un grand merci et bon après-midi

best regards,

Hi Ivan!

Congratulations for this outstanding and very rare picture! Two Anemones of a different species in one picture, that's so beautiful and certainly provided you as much satisfaction and pleasure when you took it as we have when we discover it. Moreover, the Anemone is one of my favourite flowers I often see in spring when I do the last ski hiking tours.

Kind regards

Hello Ivan,
Congratulations on capturing these two beauties together. You must have been surprised to find them both side by side posing for you. You have managed to obtain wonderful detail, great sharpness and excellent exposure. Very natural colors and composed nicely!!
I remember this past spring trying to find a yellow and purple violet growing side by side, it took a long while but finally I spotted two.

Hello Ivan
I have never seen this two species of Anemones so close together, in my region, the White is very common but the yellow are very rare and protected
this shot is very beautiful with superb sharpness and wunderful colors
Have a good night

Hello Ivan
A very nice association of these two anemones' flowers,a well composed photo

Hi Ivan,
a delicate greeting of springtime - we have to wait a long time to see them again.
They are wonderful, I like this arrangement, the sunny colours, it's beautiful, thanks
Sabine - wishnugaruda

Hy Ivan
I like that you found them very close to each other to fit in a very arthistic image. Indee, yellow anemone is not as frequent as the white, because also is more rare.
TFS this spring image!
Kind regards,
