European Starling ( Sturnus vulgaris )

Also known as the Common Starling. Starlings really do merit a second look, especially during Spring. They really are gorgeous birds!

The Pale blue at the base of this Birds beak indicates that it is a Male.

They like holes to nest in, usually an old Woodpecker hole, but will take readily to nest boxes. In urban situations, they like spaces in the roofs of Buildings and are fairly common.

If you ever find a single pale blue egg the size of your thumb tip on the open ground, then it belongs to this species. Females sometimes just cant wait to lay, even when feeding!

At least it gives the local Magpie or Crow a quick snack!

Hi Dennis
A really good shot of the Starling with fine details - I will give you a tip though. Birds directly on feeders rarely get many points on this site. Best thing is to try and get them on a natural looking perch if possible (set up a branch near the feeder). Also, you should be prepared to give critiques to images by TN contributors if you want some in return. I hope you do as the images you have posted so far are good!
Kind Regards
Vinny
