Hi Nick,

Great start to the New Year with this picture. Although you complain about the background in your note, I find that the bright colours of the bird stand out well against the darker background. Good detail and nice composition.

becaus of the wonderful luminosity and the fact that the bird
is from far and small in the photo, this is a beautiful atmosphere
photo of the Redpoll, shot with always fine POV and framing,
superb focus sharpness and details, beautifully blurred background,
if you could obtain a catch-light the photo would be more beautiful,

This must be an omen for a good year for you! You got your wish so quickly and was able to capture a beautiful Redpoll. I love the sweet facial expression, the wonderful colors, sharp details and terrific pose. The background might not satisfy you but it is lovely and sets off the bird very well.

Redpoll is one of my dream species. I have taken some Carduelis spp. here, but I have never seen this beautiful passerine bird. You are lucky either see or capture it with a great shot. focus, exposure, POV/DOF and composition with mosses great. thanks for sharing. best wishes and good night

New Years day came and went past so quickly and here we are in the second week 2010. You were very fortunate to capture this excellent shot of the Red Poll on this 1st day of the new year, and what a beauty it is indeed. The prominent colours in the feathers stand out beautifully against the lovely background. The branch it is sitting on add some decoration to this already lovely image, and the sunlight falls beautifully on the green part to show off the beautiful colour to its best. I like the almost shy pose of this little bird. Thanks for sharing this colourful image. Best regards.
