[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
A cuckoo bee, Melecta luctuosa is a brood parasite of the mason bees in the genus Anthophora. It has a rather unusual and striking black-and-white livery.
Like most parasitic bees, it is rather sluggish and slow, having nothing much to do, except sip nectar and lay eggs.
This one is a female, and measures approx 16 mm. |

Bonjour Philippe,
you captured an interesting and nicely colourd bee on a likewise beautiful flower.
A very natural setting and perfectly balanced exposure. A slightly lower viewing angle could have
increased the attractivity of the picture even more. What do you think?
Best wishes, Peter
nice pollination pic, TFS Ori
Salut Philippe,
Superbe abeille solitaire, avec des couleurs inhabituelles. Excellente netteté sur l'insecte. Je te souhaite une très bonne année!
