Dear Friends!
Believe me or not, but three years ago I presented my first picture in TN gallery :> During this period I learned a lot from you, I had opportunity to watch your interesting and beautiful pictures and to read a lot of informative notes. I also had a pleasure to show you different creatures and places on my pictures.
Many thanks for watching my pictures for your nice comments and honest critiques!!!:>

Well, because of today’s special occasion, here it is a picture presenting a member of my favorite insect group - tiger beetles :>

This is a male of Cicindela (Cicindela) maroccana Fabricius, 1801, species described from Morocco, but known also from some regions in Europe. This species is a little similar to another European species - Cicindela campestris.
It is divided into two subspecies:

-spp. maroccana Fabricius, 1801 - known from Morocco, Spain, and Portugal
-ssp. pseudomaroccana Roeschke, 1891 - occurring in Andorra, France, Italy, Spain and Portugal.

It occurs on river banks, where it prefers clay soil with low vegetation. Imagines can be found in spring period.

Cicindela maroccana maroccana is one of 19 species occurring in Morocco. Three of them are endemics to this country, others have wider distribution. This number is not too high as for African country, but rather high if we compare in with other countries of Palaearctic region (Europe + Africa north of Sahara + Asia North of the Himalayas).
Please just note, that in all Palaearctic about 110 species of Cicindelidae were noted, so in Morocco there are ca. 17% of them!!!

This is the 12th part of Cicindelidae saga, if you like to watch earlier picture, please feel free to look here.

Picture was taken about 15 km S from El Rachidia, where this species co-occurred with another tiger beetle species - Lophyra flexuosa flexuosa.

All the best for All and thank you in advance for stopping! :>

On completing three years on TN!
It has been great that you are a part of this site with fantastic contributions and i hope you will continue for a long time to come!
This is a fine photo to celebrate and very suitable for you with a nice portrait of Cicindela maroccana, taken to your usual high technical standard in situe on the Moroccan soil.
It looks like a long-legged campestris!
Thanks and have a good week,
Ivan

Hi Radomir,
I had left this photo marked for comment afterward. I think this is a very interesting creature, and the structure really comes across very well. The light appears to be a little sparse, but can appreciate good details. Good job and very well documented. Greetings and thanks for sharing.

Hi Radek and a very belated but sincere Happy New Year and only the best wishes for 2010!

This is a great photo from you and i know one you cherish since it represents the cute animals you've been studying for so long. I'm sure it's great to meet them in other countries as well.
It's also a commemorative post, you reaching 3 years here on TN...pfuu it's been a while, huh? :)
I can only congratulate you for this shot as well as for your others, thank you for all your input here on this site and for being my great friend and hope that we will have a similarly great friendship in the next years to come, too. Who knows...maybe we'll actually meet once...finally :)

Cheers and best wishes
