HOUSE FINCH

Carpodacus mexicanus

The amount and deepness of the red that appears on the males is dependent on the amount of carotenoid pigments in the bird's food during molting. The color may vary from pale yellow to deep red. Studies have shown that females prefer males with the brightest and reddist color, as this may be an indication of the bird's health. These birds feed on seeds and fruits.

The eastern populations of this bird are descendents from illegally caged birds that were released on Long Island, NY in 1940. From Long Island the released birds spread out in all directions and now populate most of the eastern US. It is interesting to note that the eastern birds have developed migratory behavior, which doesn't exist in the western birds.

excelente momento y pov,
buen foco y color...

Very nice portrait capture. Very good use of the sun as well. It appears to be either very early morning or late in the day. The angle of the sun is what makes the birds have this pop off the page quality. Well done Jane!

Hello Jane,
How cool that we both decided to post House Finches today. I figure that the girls were out shopping and that is the reason we both captured only males.
Lovely composition and beautiful colors. I would gladly trade you for the sky if I could, but I don't think that would be possible. Hope you had a great weekend! TFS.
Ron

Hello Jane,

another very good image from these couple of birds with good pov and beutiful blue bg.
Fine colours.

Gert

Hallo Jane
Two beautiful birds with strong colours and prominent features. Lovely shape of the tailpiece which shows well on your image, of the Finch closest to the camera. Great composition and beautiful and proud pose captured of both. The colours and natural sunlight in the image are wonderful. Like always a pleasure looking and appreciating one of your postings. Best regards.
Anna

Hello Jane,
A fine capture of TWO male House Finches! Yes they do look like they are waiting for something or some female to turn up!
Both are taken in a fine resting pose on the oak branch and the composition against the blue sky is ideal. The lighting, colors and sharpness are very good too.
Thanks and have a good week,
Ivan

Hello Jane
Hey... you get two in one :) Nice colorful birdies against blue sky.

Hi Jane,

Fabulous sunny capture of the boys waiting for the girls. :) Perfect composition with more space in front of the birds than behind them, nice colors, great contrast with the birds against the harsh blue sky. Excellent POV, and generally an incredible image. Bravo Madame.

Friendly regards, László (PS: I hope You'll return to TN soon).
