Syn.: Lacerta oertzeni

The Oertzen’s Rock Lizard is listed as Least Concern, in the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) Red List, in view of its wide distribution, presumed large population, and because it is unlikely to be declining fast enough to qualify for listing in a more threatened category.

Population: It is common in Turkey. It is declining on the island of Rhodes, but remains common on the surrounding islets.

Major Threats: Forest fires. It is declining on Rhodes, although the reasons for this decline are currently unknown.
Conservation Actions: It is present in protected areas in both Turkey and Greece.

This rock lizard is quite common on Ikaria island, specially on the protected area of Chalari valley.

Hello Catherine,
Fine sharpness and good DOF show up the features of this Rock Lizard from a difficult semi-frontal POV. The lighting and composition on the rock add to make this a superb portrait of this species and a fine tribute to Bayram.
Thanks and have a good week,
