Odonata [18] Libellula herculea Karsch, 1889

Continuing the series of Odonata...

On past Saturday I had to walk about 5 kilometers to find a creek with enough water, where they had some dragonflies. This drought time is very severe and these insects have declined in population.

However, the walk was worth it! I could find a site with various types of damselfly and dragonfly. There are as many as in the rainy months, but are sufficiently to continue my series of "Odonata" in TN.

This dragonfly in the photo, is a fairly large, I would say that measures about 12 centimeters. It is very nervous, but I could photograph it when they rested on a stick of Banboo, the picture was taken in the shade, practically on the channel of the creek, between rocks that form it. Fortunately, light, penetrating through the foliage, and some hit the back of the dragonfly. However, I had to use a flash of 60% 2.3X digital zoom (so I forced an f/3.5 aperture) and shutter speed of 1/200s to get a decent image.

** If you have seen me! Standing on wet rocks of the creek, with a vertical drop of more than 3 meters to my right, trying to balance on the rocks! ... these dragonflies can sometimes make us suffer! But I learn to appreciate those moments! :-)

Thanks by stop and visit!

Jesús

interessante cattura di questa rossa libellula del genere Erythemis
(l'addome rosso praticamente identico alla nostra Crocothemis erythraea )che potrebbe essere un maschio Erythemis peruviana (Rambur 1842)
