[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Last night it started snowing again so I decided to get up early and catch the first light of the day. Unfortunately the ride to this favorite tree took me longer than expected. The roads weren't all cleared by snow and other drivers were very careful. I guess I feel confident driving on snow and ice in my 4x4.

On my way to this favorite tree I also noticed that the cloud cover was increasing and I knew that it would not produce the sunset I was hoping for. Not that I had the idea of shooting into the sun, but hoping to get some colors in the clouds.

Standing at my pre-determined spot I noticed this slight hint of coloration in the lower clouds. I decided to wait and see if the sun had enough power to dissolve some of the heavy clouds cover to get some form of blue color in the sky. After about 15 minutes I got the break I was hoping for and made this photo.

I would have liked to have the fluffy clouds that I saw when I woke up. But it just wasn't there.

As always, shot on my trusted tripod but with a new geared head. Using a remote control and the aid of hot shoe spirit level to level the horizon. I used a 0.6 ND grad hard filter to balance the exposure

Hallo Niek.

Erg mooie landschapsfoto met veel diepte erin.
De kleuren zijn mooi en ik vind de compositie een plaatje om naar te kijken.
Prettige zondag nog.

We can see so far, so wide, that's wonderful, Niek.
Soft colours, beautiful moment, so pretty.
You were brave to go outside on such a cold day, brrrr, but it was worth to do it, I love it, thanks

Hi Niek!

It's fine to see a new picture from you. And I like it very much! It reflects the coldness and the winterly season at best. From my point of view, the light conditions for that kind of picture were about perfect. As perfect as your composition is: the foreground leads to the main subject and the large space you gave the sky is superb.

Kind regards

Markus

Hi Niek.
your landscape is as always breathtaking and stunning. The simple composition and subjects are so exciting. It is due to the special colours and hues.
The sharpness of the leafless tree is lively.
A well presented shot.

Foozi

Hello Niek,
Very nice landscape with poor snowy cover. I like colours of the sky. I like to read your notes. In my region snowy cover is so high that all roads are with high banks of snow until 1m and more.
Regards, Pawel

hello Niek,

De laatste dagen zijn we goed bedeeld met winter zichten, iedere fotograaf in de lage landen heeft zijn hart kunnen ophalen.
Ook dit panorama zicht is een onderdeel van deze mooie dagen.
Goed foto werk.

Groeten,
John

Ciao Niek. An intrigant cold landscape with good light and sharp. Very good the lonely tree.

Hi Niek

Sorry you didn't get what you were hoping for here...it happened to me too a few times and i know how it feels :)
But nevermind now, you still came home with a nice capture and at least you got to test the new tripod head and to see your favorite tree :)
However, even if you didn't get a whole lot of colors in this scene, i quite like the outcome, since it transcends the mood of the scene very well to the viewer. The cool tones everywhere definitely make me remember shooting in cold weather conditions and the snow and frost on the entire landscape add to that sensation as well.
As usual, i really like your simple composition, with the careful placement of the subject at 1/3 of the length but also with all its branches tight above the horizon.
Overall, lovely work my friend!

Cheers and TFS

Hi Neik,
I like it, I think the light is beautiful, even without the sunset, it gives you a very soft pastel quality colors. I find it suite the scenery very nicely without the strong sunrise colors. The misty fog adds much to the atmosphere of the winter condition. Simple and minimalist composition, but beautiful. Excellent and very good effort. Thanks.

Hi Niek!

I like the result a lot, it was worth waiting I think! I can sense the mood of the place through it. Morning shootings have such a different mood.. It can be seen in your images that you really think before taking a shot and not just keep pushing the shutter all the time.
I really like you describing the situation and the gear usage so clearly, this is a note that I think I can learn from. I'd like to improve on landscape shooting so it's always good to see such a nice image alongside with how it's made. TFS, and for writing your opinion on my post!

Best regards,
Andor
