Falco columbarius - Boz Doğan [TR], Merlin [EN] is the smallest species of the family FALCONIDAE (FALCONIFORMES) with a body lenght of 24–33 cm and a wingspan of 50–67 cm.
It breeds in northern parts of both North America and Eurasia; namely in the northern Holarctic Region. Some migrates to subtropical and northern tropical regions (southern Holarctic) in winter. It is a resident species in somewhere, e.g. Britania, Iceland, Pacific coast of North America. We also see it in Turkiye during winter period.
The shot was taken in Sultan Marshes from a jeep window. We did not stop the motor, when it escaped.
The genus Falco is represented in Turkiye by 11 species. By the the time, I have uploaded five species. Former posts belong to fallowing species:

...- Falco naumanni - Küçük Kerkenez [TR], Lesser Kestrel [EN],
...- Falco tinnunculus - Kerkenez [TR], Kestrel [EN],
...- Falco vespertinus - Ala Doğan [TR], Red-Footed Falcon [EN],
...- Falco peregrinus - Gök Doğan [TR], Peregrine [EN].

Salam Ahmet.

The dorsal pov with the headturn is so timely in capture. Very sharp image from 600mm lens. Details of the plumage is so well exposed.

Nicely framed and a beauty for TN.
Thanks for sharing and have a good day.
Regards,
Jusni

Turkish, Arabic and Persian words got assimilated into common north Indian languages such as Urdu and Hindi through our common history of the past thousand years or so Dr Ahmet. Your Turkish word "Boz" finds its echo in our language as we too call this bird "Baz".
Considering that you have taken this picture from a moving vehicle, it is a pretty clear image. The plumage of the falcon shows great details and the eye contact is magical.
Well done and TFS.

Hi Ahmet

It seems like a real fine capture of this rather smallish Merlin. That piece of prime 600mm
glass had to stretch to reach this diminutive bird and the result are quite pleasing.

The simplistic composition, with only the bird and the mount, ensures that all the attention
remains fixated with the main subject only. The nice sharp details, the evenly coloured BG,
the natural colours, and the spacey composition all makes this a very enjoyable posting.

Well done MF and TFS.
Regards
Loot

Hi Ahmet,

What a wonderful shot of this Merlin - it actually looks sweet! I love the pose and the way it is looking at you. It's unusual to see these birds out in the open like this - you took good advantage of a fine opportunity. Nice clear details and natural colors of the face and feathers. Wonderful composition.
