Turkish Odonata Fauna consists of about 110 species and more than 40 subspecies. of these, the genus Orthetrum (ANISOPTERA: LIBELLULIDAE) represented in Turkiye by 9 species with not clear status of O. ransonnetti.

... - Orthetrum albistylum,
... - Orthetrum brunneum,
........ - O. b. brunneum,
... - Orthetrum cancellatum,
... - Orthetrum chrysostigma,
........ - O. c. chrysostigma,
... - Orthetrum coerulescens,
........ - O. c. anceps,
... - Orthetrum ransonnetti,
... - Orthetrum sabina,
... - Orthetrum taeniolatum,
... - Orthetrum trinacria.

Of these, Orthetrum sabina - Slender Skimmer [EN] is seen on the post of today.
Adults are in greenish yellow to greyish yellow with paler and black markings for both sexes. Sides of synthorax is striped black and greenish yellow to greyish yellow. A small dark spot at base of hindwing. Pale markings on abdominal tergum 4 restricted to lateral and anterior portions.
Its distribution extanted from North Africa and the Middle East throughout Southern Asia to Eastern Asia, Indonesia, New Guinea and Australia.
It inhabits a wide range of still and sluggish waters, often shallow, sometimes temporary water.
I captured it by Canon 600mm lens on hand; when I waited Porphyrio porphyrio - Sazhorozu [TR], Purple Swamphen [EN] (GRUIFORMES: RALLIDAE). Everything is very well for shot, even heavy lens, except contrast lighting.

When I searhed this skimmer on TN, I saw that most of posts of the species belong to our friend Ram Thakur (ramthakur) from India
. I'd like to dedicate this shot to him. I hope you will like it, Mr. Ram.

Hi Ahmet,
Incredible photo! and if I look at the EXIF, realizes that it is even more amazing! 1/3150s and 600mm ... which parameters! impressive, congratulations, excellent knowledge of optics!

Dr Ahmet, you have honoured me through this grand dedication. Thank you, my friend!
Yes, I have had numberless encounters with the Slender Skimmer.
However, I (or, for that matter, anyone else) have never captured it in flight, so your picture is a unique first since you have frozen the subject in mid-air with unbelievable clarity and perfect details.
I must congratulate you for this great feat.
Thanks and regards,

Salam Akhi Prof. Ahmet,
very nce capture of the dragonfly in good flight. The hsarpness is splendid and I like the greyish blurry background.
I must say that most would photograph it when resting but yours is very much more challenging and exciting.
Congratulations for such a stunning capture.
Very simple but extraordinarily pecial.

This is a rare sight indeed Ahmet! A d.fly-on-the-wing with good focus, perfect exposure and frozen movement in quite natural colours. But what I like in this scene is, how the d.fly tucked its "landing apparatus" close to its thorax so as not to disturb its general aerodynamical shape! Nature does reveal some astonishing secrets sometimes...

WOW! Lovely shot!

Merhaba Ahmet hocam,
