Yesterday evening we went to The Garden with my wife and Marek an entomologist, who lives near and is real walking knowledge base about plants and insects ;-) It was great evening, full of photos, insects, plants and very interesting facts about nature. We walked something like 'Killer Plants Route' ;-) We saw Belladonna, Datura, Hemlock and few others inconspicously looking but deadly plants. I was surprised that so many dangerous plants grow just around patch ;-) Anyway, no killing but curing plant today - Echinacea with small bonus.

Black Sampson. Coneflower. Niggerhead. Rudbeckia. Brauneria pallida (Nutt.).

Named Echinacea by Linnaeus, and Rudbeckia, after Rudbeck, father and son, who were his predecessors at Upsala.
The flowers are a rich purple and the florets are seated round a high cone; seeds, four-sided achenes. Root tapering, cylindrical, entire, slightly spiral, longitudinally furrowed; fracture short, fibrous; bark thin; wood, thick, in alternate porous, yellowish and black transverse wedges, and the rhizome has a circular pith. It has a faint aromatic smell, with a sweetish taste, leaving a tingling sensation in the mouth not unlike Aconitum napellus, but without its lasting numbing effect.

Medicinal Action and Uses:
Echinacea increases bodily resistance to infection and is used for boils, erysipelas, septicaemia, cancer, syphilis and other impurities of the blood, its action being antiseptic. It has also useful properties as a strong alterative and aphrodisiac. As an injection, the extract has been used for haemorrhoids and a tincture of the fresh root has been found beneficial in diphtheria and putrid fevers.

Hi Greg! I love the BB but especially the echinacea. It is so beautifully sharp, with wonderful colours and points. I love it. The BB is great too, he shows up very well, but as you might realise, I prefer the flowers. But the BB is much, much better than a spider! Good job, and good notes too. Thank you.

The detail of the flower is gorgeous, the natural pattern is beautiful. I saw another photo wishnugaruda took of a bee on echinacea flower and also thought it looked amazing. The contrasting textures looks stunning, and the vibrant colours very eyecatching. Beautiful.
