Mount Lorette Ponds

The ponds are frozen now, but are starting to melt. Beavers have used these ponds for many years, building their Beaver Dens and raising their families. IMAX filmed a wonderful documentary here about the Beavers. If you ever get a chance to see the film, it's well worth it.

Castor canadensis
Beavers can be found throughout Canada close to deciduous forests. Beavers are nocturnal and search for food such as bark, leaves, twigs, and buds. Their favorite tree to gnaw on are aspen, birch, and maple . In winter the beaver colony gathers food to place it in their den.

The life span of a Beaver is about 5 to 7 years in the wild but have been know to live as long as 19 years. Adult Beavers can weight up to 27 kg or 60 lbs.

The Beaver is now a National Symbol in Canada.

salut Janice
wonderful scene from pond of beaver, one of national symbol of Canada, with a great landscape shot. bluish frozen water in front, green coniferous forest in rare side and clear blue sky in BG look very fantastic. superb coloration and great POV, composition. thanks for sharing. best wishes and have a nice week

It's a beautiful place, Janice, so silent and contemplative, I would like to make a walk there with you, I love the mountains in the back and the trees, there are no people, it's fantastic.
Looks a little like some places here in Bavaria being in the Alps. Thanks and enjoy your day

Hello Janice,
What a picturesque image you have posted. It contains many wonderful elements of nature, from the frozen pond to the stately pines and majestic mountains and lets not forget that beautiful bright blue sky.
Perfectly composed and with just the right amount of exposure in which to show it's true beauty. Great work!!

Hi MCF Janice,

Hi Janice,

Wonderful winter shot! I like the way that you've included the pond, trees and mountains in the BG -- set against a very pretty blue Alberta sky. The red bushes provide a very attractive trim under the trees on the other side of the pond. Great colours! TFS.

See you,

Hi Janica
Wonderful winter landscape.
Colors and light are beautiful.

I've seen these fellows in our city of Calgary; but, it is most difficult to get a CLEAR image of them.
Love this image.
Can you .... PLEASE .... send me the link to the IMAX you are referring to.
Thanks... [email protected]
