Eupeodes luniger

A small Hoverfly (about 8 mm long) which was feeding on the nectar of these flowers in our garden.
It is a common species throughout Britain and a known migrant.

Hoverflies are often confused with wasps and bees and there are 260 species in the UK.
They have no sting and are a true friend of the gardener. They help greatly with pollenation and the larvae eat aphids.

This shot was taken early in August on a warm and sunny morning.

Nice one Andy,
The combination from colours is very nice, the composition is also nice, very good job

WOW, Andy. I did a hover fly too, but your's is much nicer. It looks as if you polished the abdomen and thorax. Very great capture. I like it alot.

A nearly perfect macro Andy, only the near wing being forward of the point of focus lets it down a little. I think you could slowed the speed down and so had a slightly higher F stop which would I think brought it in. I find that the software in the digital cameras seem to allow much slower speeds than thought posible with normal film cameras.

Excellent macro capture. The colors are vivid and te DOF good. I like the composition too. Thanks for posting

Very good macro, it has a very strong composition, and the fly looks imaculate with reflections, only the left wing a bit out of focus but its very nice.

Wow... impresionante macro de un insecto tan pequeño Andy.
Excelente presentacion con atinado encuadre y perspectiva, correcto DOF y bonitos colores.

Wow... impressive macro of an insect so small Andy.
Excellent presentation with accurate frame and perspective, correct DOF and pretty colors.

Andy, Very colorful & detailed shot. I agree with Robert with regard to the F stop. I've found that in reality though when I'm trying to get that "won't sit still" bug shot I can't tripod as required with higher F stops & shutter priority is what I use in that case..and settle for the loss in DOF of course!

One day I hope to get a shot like this. Very good macro Andy. I like the shiny reflections on the body. Well done.

Great macro, Andy.
Nice reflections details.

Excellent work!

Nice iridescent wings, good colors. I think your f-stop could be a touch higher to increase your DOF. Thanks for sharing!
