We were driving peacefully on a road , suddenly the driver stopped ! There were about to 300-400 meters in front of us a herd of elephants which came in our direction. It was a good occasion to see them the very close. The driver stopped the jeep and we left the elephants come, we did not speak more, not a noise. The herd decided not to avoid us, the elephants started to pass on our right and on our left, it was great they passed to a few meters (4-5m). After a certain time we noticed this honest strapping man who was stopped 10-12 meters from us and observed us, supervised us he was balancing himself from right to left side. we were not very not reassured, what did he want to make? We staid still remembered an article of newspaper read few days before explaining how a japanese woman had died under the vehicle reversed by an elephant. What did he want?
He wanted simply to have a look at us while the young elephant were going on our left side (not alone but with some other mature elephant).
We were perhaps afraid, but it was very very pleasant to see these animals so close.

Great shot, he looks a little frightening. I would have been very frightened! I like the framing against the blue sky, great note, thanks.

Buena captura Christian.
Excelente perspectiva (imagino que no es fácil enfrentarse a un animal de ese porte)
Muy buena nitidez, colorido y composicion, ademas de una interesante nota.

Good capture Christian.
Excellent perspective (I imagine that it is not easy to face an animal of that size).
Very good clearness, composition and colorful, besides of an interesting note.

I like the description of your feelings, and one can feel this balancing very lightly onhis great legs. nice capture.

Christian, Great story that makes this photo interesting. This mammoth sure does fill the frame very well I'd say!! Can't quite tell if he's pissed in this one but I'm sure I wouldn't want to find out! ;-)

Belle expérience et sublime photo. Je ne sais pas à quelle vitesse tu as réglé ton appareil, mais apparement tu ne tremblais pas de trop. En effet ça en valait vraiment la peine. Merci. Rudy.

This is a great shot Christian,
Very good capture from this beautiful animal. The note is also very good, great job

Superb! You are so lucky, that yuo can see it in real life, not in zoo. Good composition and anturaje. I like the angle of elephant.

Qui n'aurait pas peur en voyant un tel mastodonte si près. Mais peut-être pensait-il la même chose en vous voyant!!!
Robert a réalisé un très bon 'workshop' de ton image.
Beau travail Chistian.

This is a VERy good shot of an ellie, they are very difficult to expose well. I would crop off just a bit to the right, placing him nearer the edge. Use a book and cover the image, see the improvement in the compo and impact.

What a fantastic shot of the Bodyguard, Christian. I love his "don't mess with me" stance. And your story is well explained and it gives me a good feeling for this elephant. Very well done, thank you.

You must be brave or crazy to stand in front of an impressive animal like this.
Technically speaking, you picture is good (focus and exposure). For the composition, not much can be done, unless the elephant was smaller in the frame. But as Robert said, getting more details in the dark shadows would more interesting. However those dark shadow suggest a very intensive sun. TFS

This elephant definately noticed you and took some interest in you. You did well to be quiet when they passed, especially if they had young with them. This is very good shot showing the elephant's interest in you. Good POV and DOF. Nice.

What a scary experience! He looks threatening in the photo, I don't blame you for being frightened. Great capture, thanks for sharing.

Very nice shot of this threatening animal. Excellent POV and exposure. Sharp, with nice BG and DOF.

bonjour Christian,

une jolie capture de cet impressionnant éléphant
on peut voir sa grandeur en le comparant
à l'arbre qu'il y a en arrière à sa droite

merci pour le partage de cette photo
