[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
To break away from the darkish log colonizers:

This is another harbinger of spring, the 10 mm long male Bee fly (Diptera; Bombyliidae; Systoechus ctenophorus = Systoecus ctenopterus = Systoechus sulphureus (Mikan, 1796). It seeks shelter under a wild growing Aquilegia vulgaris in my backyard. The picture is from stock, I had posted a similar one before. But I will not be around this year for another try with these difficult flies.

ID: http://home.hccnet.nl/mp.van.veen/bombyliidae/ index.html. There is a another, similar species North of the Alps, Systoechus gradatus (Wiedemann, 1820).

Hallo Dieter!

Vielen Dank ù as liebs Grüessli

Markus

Hallo Dietrich
This is the absolute image of the day! Perfect purple flower and delightful bee fly with delicate features. How striking! This was indeed a pleasure and I am glad I openend the gallery at this moment. Thanks for delivering just what the docter has ordered. Best regards.
Anna

Hallo Dieter,
Fantastic macro shot of the bee + flower, top class sharpness, nice lights and colors, not to mention composition. Very pleasant to my eyes - but as I see, not only to mine. Delightful job. Bravo.
Best regards aus Ungarn, László

Hi Dietrich.
What an attractive plant and flower and location of the insect. Simply great details of all objects. Every hair is visible perfectly, lights are delicate and colours are sweet. Dark green smooth BG is simply amazing too. Well done, as usual, and many thanks.
Alexei.

Lieber Dieter,
Was das Bild betrifft:

Peter
