Couroupita guianensis, whose common name is the Cannonball Tree, is an evergreen tree allied to the Brazil Nut (Bertholletia excelsa), and is native to tropical northern South America and to the southern Caribbean. It's part of the family Lecythidaceae and grows up to 25m in height. The Cannonball Tree is so-called because of its brown cannon ball-like fruits. The majority of these trees outside their natural environment have been planted as a botanical curiosity, as they grow very large, distinctive flowers. Its flowers are orange, scarlet and pink in color, and form large bunches measuring up to 3 m in length. They produce large spherical and woody fruits ranging from 15 to 24 cm in diameter, containing up to 200 or 300 seeds apiece.

Hallo Raimundo
I have not seen you for ages and here you return with a fascinating and most gorgeous flower. It is indeed striking with lots of interesting features and stunning colours. I like the almost full framed composition, she shape of the petals of the flower and the delicate anthers that are so well seen. Thanks for sharing this warm and brightly coloured flower. Really a pleasure to look and appreciate something different to the usual. All nit I have is the very bright light in the left hand top corner. Best regards.
Anna

Hello Raimundo,

This is an amazing-looking flower! I've never seen anything even remotely like it. It looks like something that should be an animal living on a coral reef. Your photo of it is excellent too, perfect exposure, and it's nice and sharp with clear details. A real beauty of an image! That one goes into my favorites!

John

Bonjour Raimundo,
Agréable et originale publication sous une profondeur de champ relativement bonne et malgré une lumière un peu trop forte en haut à gauche de l'image.
A bientôt sur TN pour de nouvelles aventures.
Gérard
