Hi Everyone,
This Osprey was captured on a branch overhanging the Gardner River in Yellowstone. It was early morning and I was pleasantly surprised how well this image turned out.

Cool Facts
The Osprey readily builds its nest on manmade structures, such as telephone poles, channel markers, duck blinds, and nest platforms designed especially for it. Such platforms have become an important tool in reestablishing Ospreys in areas where they had disappeared. In some areas nests are placed almost exclusively on artificial structures.
Osprey eggs do not hatch all at once, but instead the first chick hatches out up to five days before the last one. The older chick dominates its younger siblings, and can monopolize the food brought by the parents. If food is abundant, little aggression is seen amongst the chicks, but if food is limited, the younger chicks often starve.
The Osprey is a fish-eating specialist, with live fish accounting for about 99% of its diet. Barbed pads on the soles of its feet help it grip slippery fish. When an Osprey takes a large fish to its nest, it carries the fish headfirst to make it as aerodynamic as possible.

Hello Rick,
Beautiful photograph of Osprey with an excellent details, sharpness & POV.
Regards

Hi Rick, this is a mighty handsome bird that you grace TN with today. The colour is very nice and the detail sharp and well delineated. The photo has the calm look of early morning, the time of day when you can be free to let your eyes take in all of nature and not have many people around to disturb you in that quiet time.I love mornings best for outdoor photography and it is then I see more of wildlife than at any other time of day. Thanks Rick for this wonderful photo of that great fishing bird.

Hi Rick,
A very nice composition presents this osprey in a very pleasing way. I also like the aperature setting as it creates a very nice smooth backdrop. The space to the left seems very appropriate as the bird of preys head is pointing in that direction. Did you use a teleconverter or possibly a crop or is this the lens by itself and a full frame capture? Fantasic job. :)

Hello Rick

Great capture.
I have been having some Osprey encounters here lately.
The detail in the plumage is very good.
Nicely composed in the frame in a lovely natural environment.
TFS

Hi and Good Morning Rick:)

Now isn't that sweet!! A perfectly timed and executed shot, very pleasing to look at. Not more, approx. 4 days ago I saw a huge buzzard while sitting on the top of a rocky hill like a king of that region. It was beautiful, but my camera was not ready:(
TFS and have a nice day MF!
Cheers,

bayram

Hi Rick,

I'd say your image turned out very well indeed. Wikipedia has a nice shot in their Osprey section. But, if they should ever wish to replace it, yours would do the job admirably. I particularly like the head of your bird. The plumage is fantastic also. Well done. TFS.

Regards,
John

Hallo Rick
Now this is what I call a great looking bird. This is a bird of prey that has lovely, delicate features which is really striking to look at, especially the stroke of white feathers on its chest. It looks so much like balls of cotton wool and appears to be soft and fluffy. The eye and sharp edged beak is another lovely feature that will easily stand out in a crowd and cannot be missed. For sure a beauty. Thanks for sharing. Best regards.

Hi Rick,
I'm jealous. I've seen all kind of birds of prey and only once an Osprey from a great distance. Fantastic photo again in a very beautiful setting. Superb sharpness and composition. Beautiful natural colours.
Good weekend,
Peter

Hello Rick,
Another beauty for your collection I see. I agree it turned out extremely well considering how little lighting there usually is at the break of dawn. The beautiful contrast between the birds plumage and the rest of the frame is very noticeable, he really stands out against the soft morning light. Super detail, composition and exposure!!!
