ZERYNTHIA POLYXENA

Southern Festoon
Osterluzeifalter
Diane

Family: Papilionidae
Wingspan: 52-56cm
Distribution: South of Europe until Ural Mountains
Flighttime: April-June

The caterpillars feed on Aristolochia-species.
This butterfly used to live in the South of Switzerland, but is now very rare or extinct. There are several attempts to reintroduce it in my country and this specimen seems to be one of this reintroduction programm. I'm not so optimistic for the reintroduction, because of the rarity of the Hostplant and also I have observed that these butterflies with their quiet and slow flight are very quickly chased by birds.

How marvellous that Z. polyxena occurs in your country. I hope that the re-introduction program is successful!
The sharpness and colours are excellent to show fine details against a pleasing BG.

Bonsoir Anne,
Bravo! Amitiés,

Hello Anne,
from the thumbnail I was guessing what it is. Such a special shot that combined the beutiful butterfly and the strabge flower.
Very nicely presented in claroty and sharpness, the details are very well noted and the smoothness of the background is lovely.
Well presented shot.

regard,
Foozi

Liebe Anne,

Privet, Anne,
Top quality! I like sharpness and colours.
My congratulations! Well done!
Impressive graphism! The nature is the best artist!
Have a good week!
Serghei
