Hello again!
Today the third part of "reptile results" from my last entomological trip to Africa :>

This is Lichtenstein's Short-fingered Gecko (Stenodactylus sthenodactylus sthenodactylus (Lichtenstein, 1823)) (Gekkonidae), one the the smallest Tunisian gecko species.

Distribution: Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia (Djerba and other coastal areas), Libya, Egypt (Ismailia: [HR 31: 185]), Israel, Mauritania, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Sudan, Syria, Saudi Arabia, N Kenya, Mali

Habitat: sandy areas with low vegetation and stones, saltmarshes

Systematics: two subspecies are recognized:
-ssp. sthenodactylus (Lichtenstein, 1823)
-ssp. mauritanicus Guichenot, 1850

Activity: mainly nocturnal species (note the huge eyes adapted to darkness!)

Size: 6-10cm

Food: different small arthropods, both arachnids and insects

Picture was taken during night (about 11 p.m.) at the bank of Sebkhet En Noual near Mezzouna village. I found this little gecko species when it was was hunting for ants. The distance from my camera to the lizard was some 10cm :>

Thank you in advance for your time and comments! :>

Hello Radomir,
WHat a great capture of this interesting and very cute Gecko! I like its camouflage markings and chubby shape. Excellent sharpness and great use of the flash.
TFS and best regards, Ulla

Hallo Radomir
What a beauty is this Lichtenstein's Short-fingered Gecko, and beautiful it is indeed. You have captured this Gecko with great clarity and skill. The texture of the skin, size and colouration of the scales are seen with great clarity and detail. The eye, looks like marmer stone and the black vertical stripe that runs through it rounds of this image to its best. Great camerawork, very interesting notes. Always a pleasure stopping by at your images. Thanks for sharing. Kind regards.

what a nice creature, nice capture also...

Hallo Radomir,
Stunning image of this lizard. It is really a beauty The beautiful big eyes are an attractive feature of this lizard but it also blends in beautifully with the rest of it's body. Good sharp clear image. Very well done and thanks for sharing.

Wow.... i was green with envy!:) One of the most beautiful large-headed gecko you caught here MF! A represtantative and also relict small population of a different species (S. grandiceps) lives in Kilis province (SE Anatolia). It looks like a baby indeed:)
TFS this beauty with us!
Hreetings from Izmir!

Hello Radomir,
So cute your little night-beauty!! It's such a fine and somehow touching picture. Colors and sharpness are excellent for a night-shot. The composition could have slightly be improved in mouving the stone a little bit towards the right side. But a special shot, indeed.
Take care
Kind regards

Gecko was my favourite subject in Riyadh, especially when I had a couple of them sharing residence with me, Radomir!
This is a cute little fellow sitting on a clod.
Very good image with nice details.
Thanks and regards.

Precioso trabajo Radomir, con una iluminación muy cuidada. Una toma de gran habilidad técnica con la que consigues "meternos" en las escena. Soberbios detalles con el ojo en este caso.
Buena semana: Josep Ignasi.
