Body length: 10 - 22 mm.
In Europe a very common species developing in a variety of herbaceous plants (eg. Cardus, Urtica, Angelica, Chaerophyllum, Artemisia, Salvia, Aconitum). Like the other species of Agapanthia genus, the larvae of this beetle develop in the above-ground plant tissues (stalks). They cut off the plant stalk before pupation, create the pupal cells near ground level, and the adults leave the stalks via a newly created exit hole in the side of the remaining stalk.

Europe, Russia, Caucasus, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Near East.

Hello Thijs,
A very good macro of what we call Tistelbock. It is only found in the very south of my country.
Excellent focusing in this POV to show the important features with good sharpness and natural colours. Nice composition on the edge of a leaf against a pleasing blurred natural BG.
Thanks and best regards,

Hi Thijs.
Once more brilliant work from you. I am impressed a lot with all components of true photo skill. Blameless close-up with amazing subject, tack sharp details of the insect and nearest part of a leaf, colourfulness and blurriness of he BG is awesome too. My all compliments and best wishes.

Hello Thijs,
A great capture of this fine 'Tistelbock' at the edge of a leaf. It may be common but not that easy to find here! Fine details, natural colours and very well composed.
Many thanks and regards, Ulla
