Tales from the Dark Side...of tree trunk :-)

June wasn't good month for macro photographer in Poland. Rainy, windy and dark. After few miserable attempts to photograph something from under my umbrella during strong wind I almost gave up. But suddenly I discovered new idea. What is stable and protected from rain drops during heavy rains? Tree trunks! Bingo! I founded big and diverse ecosystem there. This is first photo with Opolio sp. waiting for prey. I think I'll send many more or maybe I'll make some kind of collage with small dwellers of trunks.

Hi Greg,

Great subject with an unusual pov with this kind. Like it very much that eye look like more an eye of an animal than an arthropod.
And yes, if you have enough desire, you can always find a solution, in this case you've found the mossy tree trunks.

Hello Greg,
This is an amazing macro!
Few of us know that the eyes of an Opolio species look like this! The body was taken with fine sharpness and use of flash, a good idea to concentrate on the body: to include the long legs misses the details like the eye.
We had a cold June and now we have a very hot July but there are only a few insects.

I'm actually writing to you from the mountains :) It's nice and sunny here and i'm hoping to get some macros done myself.
This is a great capture from you and a terrific idea for "rainy days".
The side POV here really let you go past the long legs and get a better view of this daddy's body and head.
The magnification is good, too (good work with the Tokina) and the flash aided you in getting those extra details.
