[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
On my Valais excursions:

Thanks to Anne (anel) and Peter (batu) I got a glimpse at the complicated world of Erebia on the Moosalp in Valais, 2'050 m a.s.l.. This one is more easily determined, it's a Large ringlet male (Lepidoptera; Satyridae; Erebia euryale f. adyte Esper 1805; Weißbindiger Bergwald-Mohrenfalter). It sits on Crepis aurea.

Why are there so many Erebia species in the Alps? Genetical pedigree analyses show that the actual disjunct distribution must be the result of one or several glaciation periods. The Alps and the Carpathes form an obstacle for the gradual retreat of plants and animals during a glaciation. Small populations can get isolated on a mountain tip not covered by a glacier or in a secluded valley; isolation eventually leads to allopatric speciation.

Hallo Dieter!

As liebs Grüessli

Hi Dietrich,
A lovely capture of this beautiful Large ringlet butterfly. Excellent composition with sharp details. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hi dietrich MF,

Awesome capture, nice sharpness, the focus looks very nice too. Nice idea to go with the relatively vertical crop, and to leave some room up the front side MF!
TFS and have a nice time during my absence!
