(Antidorcas marsupialis)

What type of animal?

Where does it live? Africa

What's it covered with? Fur

Natural habitat? Grassland

What does it eat? Plants

Springboks are both grazers and browsers. They feed on grass, leaves and roots. They will drink water when it's available, but when it's hot they get moisture from leaves. When excited or alarmed, the springbok opens a special glandular pouch (in the middle of the back near the base of the tail) to display a crest of long stiff white hairs. If springboks are alarmed suddenly, they can arch their backs and instantly leap 2m forward, landing on all four feet. They keep repeating this behaviour, known as 'pronking', and it's an effective way to confuse a predator and attempt to escape while at the same time warning other springbok that there's danger about..

.Springboks are what are called 'seasonally territorial'. If it's time to mate, herds are smaller and consist of dominant males and females while bachelor males form their own herds. At other times, herds will join up..

.Auckland Zoo has a small herd of springbok. They share their extensive enclosure with our rhino and ostrich in the Pridelands area of the Zoo.

Above information are from here

Catch this in Auckland Zoo, it didn't come out very good.. so I increase the saturation a bit to make it look a bit alive! Unfortunally I didn't captured the legs of the front Springbok... :( but I thought it still an interesting shot.

Good shot! You rarely get that close to them in the wild, and they are magnificent animals. Did you know that they are not common in our Kruger National Park?

They are good on a rugby field as well . . . :-)
