I was going to call this as my theme, Small Bird, Big World, but when taken out of context, the bird isn't small. It is a full grow Buteo jamaicensis or one of its cousins......and the Palouse is indeed VERY large covering two states. Palouse was created by a combination of volcanic geology from two states and molded again by the Missoula Ice Damn 10K years ago.

In my travels around small areas of the Palouse I frequently see these birds and other hawks looking for prey. There is all sorts off prey on the ground....ground squirrels, rats, a list as endless as the Palouse itself. And if I play the right sounds and listen with my eyes wide open I can remember the Nez Pierce (nayz piers) Indians riding their ponies here in total freedom....times have changed.

The rolling shape of the Palouse and a Buteo on the hunt backed by a fine cloud pattern in this autumnal/late summer scene that makes your country look big and reminds me of the Heston-Peck film that I enjoyed when I was young.
Nice one from your archives, Bob, the Buteo for me being the focal point.
Take care,

Hi Bob,

The distance between the field and the trees is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the Palouse. The cloudy sky is giving a good contrast to the colors. Have a nice day.

Hello Bob,

a very nice harversters landscape with fine autmnalis colours
Good pov.
It looks lonely at the top if i looks to the trees.

Hello Bob,
Beautiful photo in a very nice contrast between bird and landscape. Good composition, layers and natural colours.

Good Morning Bob,

Awesome autumnal landscape, so raw and natural looking. Good job to capture the colours and textures in such detail. Looks like a great vantage point.
TFS and have a nice day!

Hi Bob!

I first did not quite understand, why you are talking about a bird... Hmm, you teach me to look closer at a picture, eh?

Nice picture, dear Bob, of your beloved Palouse, and very seasonal. Our fields here look quite similar right now. And your picture also show how things have changed... where are the Indians and their Ponies?

Kind regards

Now, this is really beautiful, Bob!
But this endless list that you talk about, does it just seem to be there or is it really in existence now?
I wonder..
Very well done, as usual, Bob!
I could say this shot is yours from a mile afar!
Brilliant work!

Namastay Bob,
A lovely landscape shot of the Palouse and also the bird in the frame makes a good composition. Lovely color patterns. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hello Bob,
What an beautiful and artistical shot. This lovely and subtle earth-colors and the landscape with soft curves and beautiful patterns. The grey sky has the perfect tint too. And finally the Buteo so small and perfectly placed, truly a marvellous nature-shot! I'm amazed that you didn't show this fine picture until now.
Thanks a lot and kind regards
