Predators and Prey Series.

In ecology, predation describes a biological interaction where a predator (an organism that is hunting) feeds on its prey (the organism that is attacked). Predators may or may not kill their prey prior to feeding on them, but the act of predation always results in the death of its prey and the eventual absorption of the prey's tissue through consumption. The other main category of consumption is detritivory, the consumption of dead organic material (detritus). It can at times be difficult to separate the two feeding behaviors, for example where parasitic species prey on a host organism and then lay their eggs on it for their offspring to feed on its decaying corpse. The key characteristic of predation however is the predator's direct impact on the prey population. On the other hand, detritivores simply eat what is available and have no direct impact on the "donor" organism(s).

Selective pressures imposed on one another has led to an evolutionary arms race between prey and predator, resulting in various antipredator adaptations.

The unifying theme in all classifications of predation is the predator lowering the fitness of its prey, or put another way, it reduces its prey's chances of survival, reproduction, or both. Ways of classifying predation surveyed here include grouping by trophic level or diet, by specialization, and by the nature of the predator's interaction with prey.

Hi Luis.
Marvelous colours of the shot and a very attractive scene at whole. DOF and sharpness across the shot are great as well as the flash work. My compliments and TFS.

Incredible and dynamic capture Luis! Some gentle postprocessing can be implemented and if you excuse me I did just that in the Workshop! Please let me know how you find the difference. Despite that, I think you did a great job here! Bravo!

Hello Luis,
Excellent and very beautiful photo of this crapspider with prey. Great sharpness, details and very well saturated colours. Even the waterdrops are beautiful.

Hallo Luis
There is just such a lot of positive points I can point out in this image. This is and absolutely perfect macro, not just because of the crabspider and its prey, but also because of finer details like the rich colour of the flower, the water droplets in different, tiny shapes and sizes, the thin spider thread, the rich colours and shape of the anthers and many, many more. Oh, sorry I cannot stop now, because I have to still say that the focus is perfect, the composition great, the point of view just right and the overall presentation a sheer delight and many, many more. Oh, sorry I still have to say, that the technical aspects of this image is great, and the photographer a man who know how to handle a camera. I think I said it all. Oh, no sorry I just want to end of by saying. Thanks for sharing this delightful and most colourful image. Best regards.

Hola Primo,

A wonderful and fascinating picture. The more I look at it the more I see. I was so busy looking at the fantastic spider and the fly that it took a while until I noticed the droplets. I LOVE the colors, details and position of the spider. The flower is amazing - the pink is perfect for the background.

Great shot looking into the core of the flower where this predator must be hiding, waiting for the prey, Luis.
The pink of the flower is over-powering but makes good background for the action.
Thanks and regards.

A stunning shot, Luis!
The bright coloured BG is simply awesome!
Very neat shot!

Igual te da un ave, que un pez, que una araña; tu máquina
los congela a todos de manera precisa y artística !
El color en esta toma es desbordante y bien controlado
a la vez. Recreas una escena compleja hábilmente.
Otro excelente trabajo.
Saludos Luis: Josep Ignasi.

Lovely picture of this crab spider in its typical habitat with its typical prey. I love the colors here!
