[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
On my Valais excursions:

This 24 mm long Blue winged grasshopper (Orthoptera; Acrididae; Oedipoda caerulescens (L.); Blauflüglige Ödlandschrecke; Oedipode turquoise) is a familiar sight in warm and dry places like here on my way to Bratsch (1'050 m a.s.l.). The present individual was caught in he rain, it surprised me by the reddish body color.

ID: there are several red winged (i.e.where the hind wing is partially red) Acridids but only two blue winged ones in the area to be found. The species O. caerulescens is characterized by clear and long wing tips, a whitish proximal end of the hind tibia and an indent on the upper side of the hind femur. I used B. Baur et al. 2006. Die Heuschrecken der Schweiz. Haupt, Bern, Switzerland for reference.

Lieber Dieter,
