From my backyard:

This male Map butterfly (Lepidoptera; Nymphalidae; Araschnia levana L.; Landkärtchen; la Carte géographique) has a wing span of about 34 mm. Interesting: there are two broods per year, the two differ widely in color patterns. The male shown here is of the second brood, much darker and with bands of white spots that lack completely in the first brood. Why this polymorphism? Mystery to me. Linnaeus was misled by it to think that there were two races.

Hi Dietrich, georgeous wings position, perfect to understand the beautiful design of this rare butterfly, never seen in my fields.Excellent quality of sharpness, colors and white balance, very good composition too. Thanks for share, have a nice day,LUCIANO

I wonder why, too!!!
A very interesting revelation, Dietrich!
The shot in itself is awesome, too!

Buena disposición del insecto. Veo que está posada sobre una
planta de Orégano. Yo creo que aún no tengo esta especie en mis archivos.
Un abrazo: Josep Ignasi.
