|This photo was taken whilst I was on holiday in the Maldives. First time out with my new 300D.|
These Grey Herons had been tormenting me all week. Every time I tried to get close enough to them to get a decent sized shot with my 18-125mm Sigma lens they would fly off. Must have been my untanned legs. Everytime I didn't have my camera with me they'd land be 10 feet away ... smirking. Towards the end of the week I spotted this one flying between the shoreline and the walkway that ran from our waterbungalow to the island. Took 3 panning shots of it as it flew past and this is the middle one. The walkway was about 6-8 feet above sea level. Which gives the great POV.
I've not done any kind of post production on the image other than cropping, that's another area I need to learn about.

Welcome to TN.
Where were you to get this great POV? Good exposure. Excellent background. Well done. Thanks.
Great opening shot Paul!
Perfect lighting and composition, very good details and POV.
The photo is really interesting and the clear water in BG looks great.

Hello Paul, welcome to TN. Nice first post with this Heron in-flight. Were you on a boat?
The composition is good and I like the point of view. I think you could sharpen it a little more, try USM at (100%, 0.3 radius, 0 threshold). Very good shot.
A note to accompany the shot would be welcomed.
Thanks for posting.
Very good in-flight shot, Paul.
I like the composition and POV (Point of View).
The exposure are also good.
Agree with Paul about the sharpening.
Very well done.
Welcome to TN.
