[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Made this shot this morning in the woods near Chaam. Can anyone please tell me what the english expression is for this kind of fungus?

Well, thanks to Robert I can inform you all these are Birch Polypores. In Holland we call them 'elfenbankjes', which roughly means 'benches for elfs'.

Used the flash to block out the hard shadows.

Hi Frank A big welcome to TN , what you have here is very deffinatley a Birch Polypore (Piptoporus betulinus) which is growing on an old (Betula Pendula) Birch Tree. You where right to use the flash to light the shadows, it could do with just fading back a little bit. I hope you are able to update your notes now you have an idea what it is.
