Thanks for your kind comments for of my previous post.

This is Red-backed Shrike (Törnskata).
I took this last year in the early summer when this male was seeking for foods for his youngsters.
I was waiting for about 1 hour to get what I want, a diving bird with spread wings and it turn out better than I expected.

Info from Wikipedia.

This 16-18 cm (approx. 6.3-7.1 inches) long migratory bird eats large insects, small birds, frogs, rodents and lizards. Like other shrikes it hunts from prominent perches, and impales corpses on thorns or barbed wire as a "larder".
The general colour of the male’s upper parts is reddish. It has a grey head and a typical shrike black stripe through the eye. Underparts are tinged pink, and the tail has a black and white pattern similar to that of a wheatear. In the female and young birds the upperparts are brown and vermiculated. Underparts are buff and also vermiculated.

Hej Gert,
What a superb capture of this beautiful male Törnskata, a fine neighbour to my rather dull vinterhämpling!
I am surprised that you could get such sharpness and DOF at only F4 and the wings are only burred because of the movement. Your lens is a really a top quality instrument that you have mastered superbly.
The POV and head position allows nearly all the features to be seen with exceptional clarity against the clean green BG in a pleasing composition.
Thanks for sharing this beauty from your archives,

Det har varit nollgradigt i natt och vintern är nastan framme här i Skåne men vi ska inte resa bort i år. Ska du till Cypern igen?

Certainly a difficult shot executed perfectly well, under soft moderate light, Gert. The use of 1/1250 is a very good choice! The wings of the Red-backed Shrike are still moving and in the same time the rest of the bird body is solid frozen! Bravo! Great composition and awesome dept of field indeed!

Hi, dear friend.
You managed to catch this small bird at the most attractive moment. Wingspread is brilliant as well as diagonal composition of the shot. I like wonderful and clean colours of the BG and shrike. This summer I have pictured only young individuals (at not so close distance unfortunately). May be I will share one from them soon. Now I will go for a short business trip in an hour and leave to you my compliments.

Hello Gert,
this is really a marvellous capture. The opportunity of having it all well spread wings are not that easy. you waited for the best moment to express the beauty of this bird. The pattern created by the open wings are indeed very lovely.
The image is well lit and the smooth green background is wonderful. So this composition is really a splendid one and i keep on looking appreciating the thrust of jump its forming from the shot.
A very exciting view.

Bonsoir Gert,

Amazing capture. Even with such a high shutter speed, wings are still blurry. Excellent focus and exposure. Nice composition. I like the way it looks in the camera as if he were saying:

Hey Gert! Look at this dive!

Nice work and TFS.

Hi Gert. All your birds shots are of top class quality. This one was captured just about to take off. Brief moment but excellent exposure of the plumage. Very well framed and love the natural tone. Well done and have a good day shooting. Regards - Jusni
