[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hover Flies can be found almost everywhere. As soon as there are flowers in your garden, you will start to notice these flies. Gardeners should learn to recognize them because they are both pollinator and aphid eater.

Hover Flies vary from tiny, often black and shiny flies to large flies that have a remarkable resemblance to bees or wasps. Early in spring, the small dark species are noticeable, and the large bee-like ones becoming more common as summer progresses. The characteristic that all Hover Flies share is their rapid hovering flight. You often see them hovering a patch of sunlight, and then dart to investigate a flower.

Although many look like bees, the hovering flight gives them away. Other clues are two wings rather than four (although this is sometimes hard to discern) and the bulbous eyes characteristic of flies. And, since they are flies, they do not sting.

This shot was taken at late afternoon in RAW and ISO200.

Hello George,
Great macro of this hoverfly. The clarity is superb, almost unreal. The sharpness and details on the body and head are perfect. Very good POV and composition. A fine DOF against the blurred BG.
Regards,
Peter

Hello George,
A superb lateral POV capture of this species of Hoverfly, probably a species of Episyrphus.
Good use of flash without causing the night-time effect and giving good illumination to show natural colours and nice contrasting BG against the this sharp image. The 'stabilisers' or rudimentary second wings, found in all species of flies, are well shown here.
Thanks and kind regards,
Ivan

Hi George,
A fine closeup capture of this beautiful hoverfly. This looks much similar to a marmalade hoverfly but not sure due to little knowledge in flies. Good back ground. Superb sharp details, Very good DOF achieved. Good composition too. Thanks a lot for sharing.
