Today we celebrate Thanksgiving Day here in the US, and unfortunately for this particular bird, the turkey is usually the main course.

This is a female Goulds Turkey, which is the largest game bird we have here in the states. The Goulds Turkey is native to Mexico and found in the High Sierras and Baja. It is also found in Southeastern Arizona, Southwestern New Mexico and Southern California.

This shot was taken at Ramsey Canyon this summer while Rosie and I were traveling throughout Arizona. There are two chicks in the photo, one is in the lower right hand corner of the frame and the other is just entering the stream in front of the mothers breast.

Hi Ron,

A most appropriate subject for Thanksgiving! After seeing this I hate the idea of eating leftovers tonight. A wonderful shot of the mother and her two chicks - so glad you told us where to look - they are so well camouflaged I would have missed them. I have yet to see a Wild Turkey here in Arizona.

Hello Ron
a fine capture of this wild turkey, i have only see the baby in the water, thanks your note, i have discover the one in the image corner, it is very good camouflaged,
it's certainly impressive to see this big birds in the wild, and you have captured this female with superb details,
Have a great sunday

Not much meat on these so the hunt is pure sport and one which I have partook but not with joy. I don't like killing for sport. A fine specimen Ron. May you and yours be Blessed on this first Sunday in Advent.

Hello Ron,
wow..this is an exciting lively and real view of the turkey in wilderness.
Such a pretty bird in good details of the feathers.
The chicks are cute too.
Excellent view for me as I have never seen them in wilderness,

Good shot of this game turkey Ron, I like the natural habitat & small stream running through.
Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving :)
